Hi, I'm just after some advice please.
I'm wanting to read the abs fault codes, I've read that I need to jumper wire Tc and E1 then turn ignition on and count the blinks.
Does this apply to my vehicle which is a 3rd gen 96
Any advice would be appreciated as the abs light is on. Thank you

Had the better half go to belgium for a long weekend for her mates birthday:wave: so what better way to pass the time than hole myself up in the shed and attack the surf.
Been collecting a few bits and bobs for the lift over the last couple of weeks and managed to get the bj spacers in and the body lift done, now fettling up a rear bar.Few pics of work in progress will post some more when its finished and powdercoated next on list is XROX style bar for the front and some side bars and then blah blah blah blah

Brake system help for MOT

Hi

I have been searching through the brake threads to try and find an answer to my questions but need to check a coup!e of things.

I have a 3.0 TD 4runner and had replaced the front pads discs and calipers with new items bled the system as normal and no issues. The only thing it failed the mot on was hand brake efficiency and one of the pipes at the rear at lsv corroded. I found after taking drums off that the shoes needed replaced so I did that and cleaned the inside. I replaced both pipes on the rear axle and the one that goes from lsv to rear flexi.

Questions are how effective should the handbrake be, is it supposed to stop the vehicle if its in gear and you let it out on clutch pressure? It seems to be tight after adjustment but still moves when clutch is out only just though, there is resistance.

The other thing that is now happening is the brake pedal sinks towards the floor when you hold it with hard push when engine is running, I can't remember it doing that before...with engine off the pedal stays firm. I have bled the rear brake a few times now with no air coming out and it still seems the same. If I pump the pedal with the engine running the brake warning light flashes on. Reading posts this could be vacuum issue or master cylinder or is it something else that could be happening as this was fine after I replaced the front brake system and has only started since I did the rear, could it still be air?

Battery problems

Hi all,

My surf has been stored up for a few months due to me using company car. During this time I have started it up and left running for 10mins each week. No problems starting at all. Last Saturday I started it as normal and ran the engine until warmed up.
Then when I tried to start it Wednesday.... nothing....... I presume a flat battery somehow. The alternater is OK with no red warning lights showing. Charging gauge is as normal. BATTERIES ARE GENUINE TOYOTA and about 3 yrs old. It's probably due to the batteries not being used much but any other suggestions would be greatfully received

Many thanks

Andy

Hi all,am in the process of sourcing a new head for my 1996 kzn 185 and saw these on flea bay and wondered if anyone had any experience of them, complete head, gaskets, bolts and injectors £425 from a guy calling himself "Immadfish" the item number is 321631006238 ,it seems a good buy but I do know there are some hooky heads out there and was just looking for good or bad feedback on this. Thanks for any light anyone can throw,Tom.

rear window problem

Hoping someone has a brainwave to solve my rear window mechanism problem. Having just bought another ( my fourth ) Surf, it came with a non working rear window. Bought a new electric motor and have managed this morning to get everything together and working.
However, the previous owner had disassembled the workings and has released the large spring which is normally held by a centre fixing and on the outer end by a metal tab. On my truck the bent end of the spring is about 180" opposite to the tab .
Anyone got any brainwaves how to get that bent end of the spring back over the raised metal tab? It's a heck of a strong spring and I'm struggling to find a way to get it back in position.

Window is going up and down ok, but presume the spring is an " assist" to the electric motor when lifting the window back to the closed position?

Thanks for any help.

Facebook that is, swore blind I'd have f##kall to do with it but as I need a part for a model truck I'm doing and the only guy on the planet that's making it is in Australia and only on face book I joined up, i'll try to avoid the temptation to take a photo of a jobbie I'm proud of or a meal I'm about to demolish or start saying OMG:deal2:

Not the typical starter problem?

Hi!

I have been reading this forum couple of years now, but this is my first post. Sorry for my spelling, im from finland. :D

First of all my surf is -96 KZN185 srrx 3.0D Auto.

I want to thank all the members in this forum because i have had excellent tips how to improve my surf. (and keep it running :D )

So to the issue. My surf is suffering a weird starter problem. When i turn the ignition key the starter may just spin freely, it doesnt turn engine over. Strange is this happens only at cold weather ( below 0°C) Usually it then will turn over and start after couple of tries. But in example -25°C or so it's almost impossible to start. Sometimes it will first turn the engine and then just drop off and spin free.

By this far i have tried:
-2 new starters
-Cleaned all the connectors including engine earth
-Made new engine earth connection
-Overrided current cable with jumper cable
-Battery should be fine (also tried with another good battery and with two battery at the same time)
-Overrided starter relay by feedin 12V straight from battery to starter (this also rule out the ignition)
-The gear ring? is fine. No bent, worn or missing tooth.

I cant undestand how is cold weather doing this, because i dont have any problems in summer

If anyone could help i would really appreciate it.

No Overdrive - ECU?

Hi all,

My trusty KZN130 Surf has developed a recent fault. When driving the auto box holds the gears for longer, almost as if the ECT is on, and there is no overdrive gear. From searching the forums here, it appears a common cause for these symptoms is a faulty ECU,
Does anyone have an ECU they could lend me to test or buy?
Any help would be much appreciated....

which size filter???

after reading about the fuel pump, and doing the resistor mod, it made me thinking that a good clean before all of that it could be good,

i started before (while ago) cleaning and smoothing the manifold air intake, due i put the intercooler of a prado, removed the EGR as well while i was at it,

so now i opened the pump to remove the spill valve to be able to clean the filter, that to my surprise the finest of the filters had big holes, do any of you know the size of it?

now looking for the right replacement,

what would you say its the right size of this link?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/…/STAINLESS-ST.../251198345904…
i will apreciate any help,

another thing i still got the original fuel pump, but i can still get the resistors of the pump of the intercooled prado i took the bits off, i guess by doing that it will give me a bit extra power, right? or all wrong?

many thanks

Diagnosis of KZ- TE . Troubleshooting. Schemes of connecting

i thought this was helpfull,
Diagnosis of KZ-TE . Troubleshooting. Schemes of connecting sensors and actuators to the engine control unit (ECU).
Repairs
The hands
Although rarely, yet sometimes there is a problem with the engine electronics failure 1KZ-TE . Which leads to the light bulb lighting up on the instrument panel, the CHECK ENGINE , and sometimes quite impossible to start the engine. Often it is something to do with a long downtime technology, soggy electronics, deterioration of contacts in a relay or connectors and wires.
The first resort to anything - check the fuses, then attempt to verify the vibration method of connectors, wires and relays in electronics box. It takes just check the voltage of the battery and its connections, the quality of the terminals, pay close attention to the wire and fixings to the body mass, the engine.
If the items listed above are normal, start diagnosis. Just make a reservation, documentation and diagrams precisely Haisu I do not, I use the circuit from under the instruction 1kZ-TE. Tying, respectively, if they will be different, it is insignificant, mainly - controlled glow plugs and, perhaps, a slightly different name of the relay and fuse, but the principle is the basis laid down the same signals and the same. Review your I prepared the material, which is available here: http://www.toyota-ace.ru/down/1kte.pdf
I'll start with the color-coded wires.
B (black) - black; L (blue) - Blue; R (red) - red; BR (brown) - brown; LG (light green) - c willow-green; V (violet) - Purple; G (green) - green; About ( orange ) - orange; the W ( Communities white ) - white; the GR ( gray ) - gray; the P ( pink ) - pink; the Y ( yellow ) - yellow.
When you specify a two-color combinations with a hyphen - in this case, the first light - color wires, the second indicator - color applied over the first strip (for example, the BR stands for black with a red stripe)
Because occur in practice, cases when the assembly constructors, or after repairs, torn connectors not bolted (soldered). In most cases, according to statistics, suffer from signal wiring in the place of installation, removal of a starter.
Now consider the "tying" of the engine 1KZ-TE , sensors, actuators, signal circuits, the power supply circuit of engine management (ECM).
Connection to a computer the crankshaft position sensor (signal to the TDC ) and the engine speed sensor (in fact, the engine speed is calculated in the computer on the momentum NE sensor on the pump). The waveforms TDC and pulses the NE .

From the waveform in the figure we see the TDC unit impulse, this impulse is induced in the coil sensor crankshaft position during the passage of the TDC of the first cylinder and shows made one revolution of the crankshaft. NE pulses induced in the coil of the gauge of turns on the pump from the gear that has teeth pass. Incoming information is analyzed in the computer and synchronizes modes pump and motor.
Thus, in case of interruption or short-circuit wires to the sensor position of the crankshaft or a speed sensor, the sensor fault itself or open the input circuits in the computer unit, the engine control unit generates an error, respectively, 12 or 13.
Another one interesting case, we told forumchanin Artem, he had a problem with the connector on the sensor position of the crankshaft , wire rotted and had to rebuild the connector, when the works were accidentally reversed polarity switching of the sensor, resulting in a form of pulse signal TDC has changed a bit and shifted over time. What after the warm-up and on the move led to an error to fire the CHECK ENGINE . ECU unit was trying to adjust the injection time, acting on a valve the TCV , but apparently, adjust injection timing angle is not enough.
Sometimes erratic correction injection timing and to fire CHECK bulb causes bad tightening pulley pump, formed as a result of backlash and the key broke shponpaz course readings and sensor rotation of the injection rate became unpredictable. Correction of the injection angle to fail with an error code 14.
It happens - the plant is normal, but in the process sometimes there were failures, something klatsat, engine stalling, there was no error codes, it turned out - was slack wires from the crankshaft position sensor, insulation peretёrlas on rotating front propeller shaft to the ECU result, according incorrect data, trying to adjust the angle of the injection, the TCV solenoid chattering, responsible for the injection angle.
Another case was when the positive lead trying to apply something on sensors, not knowing what they do and what it may lead, in the end was a fatal RPM sensor error (error 13) at the operating sensor and wiring. On opening the computer found that burned mass conductor on the circuit board.
There are options to Break connectors Korotyaev engine weight dangling from sockets - conductors - so if you repeatedly knocks EFI fuse - look in the engine compartment and check the active electronic harness on the engine - especially pay attention to the actuators - electric vacuum valves ( STH1 / 2, E-VRV), devices with the reference voltage + 5V (PIM, TPS), as well as SPV chain, TCV.

Driving connection valve installation angle of injection at the fuel pump to the conclusion TCV ECU. Signal shape the TCV .

Resistance -solenoid valve installation angle of injection should be 10-14 ohms at an ambient temperature +20'C, measured by an ohmmeter to the sensor contacts, when disconnected from the computer unit connector. At discrepancy of the resistance of the solenoid - replace valve TCV. The same valve can be checked by submitting to him a short time (less than 30 seconds! ) Voltage of 12 volts (+12V on the output Bed and +, a lot of the withdrawal TCV solenoid ) must be clear audible clicks. But even they do not indicate that there is no jamming in the core, which reduces the range of automatic adjustment of the angle of injection and to fire CHECK lamp (14 error) in certain modes of engine operation. In this case, it helps the replacement or cleaning of the valve installation angle of injection. There are times when the carriage with rollers podzakusyvaet inside the pump housing due to scuffing or sticking fuel impurities, and does not give proper injection angle change during a working automation.
If TCV valve clicks and faulty wiring and transition connectors to the computer unit prozvanivatsya and normal, de-energizes the car by removing the positive terminal of the battery, take out the unit ECU and to understand it - look chain (track) TCV signal and its elements.

When current flows through the coil, the stator core by the electromagnetic field, retracts the movable rod, compressing the return spring to open the fuel passage connecting the high and low pressure chamber. The greater the value of the exposure control current to the coil TCV valve, the wider opens a passage between the chambers . Thus, the timer piston is moved to the right by adjusting the fuel injection timing.
Also noticed that in the case of pressure reduction in fuel injection pump housing in a pressure chamber upstream of the control rod TCV, fuel injection timing adjustment is small, so that the same will result in lighting up CHECK - 14. Reducing the pressure error can be caused by damage to or clogging of the fuel highway fuel zagelivaniem scored fuel filter and other obstacles to normal fuel passage (filters and filtriki on the pump set by the additional filter on the fuel line).

Greetings clever peeps. We have an old Massey Ferguson 590 and I put a new fuel gauge on today. Nothing at all happens, but when I connected the ground wire from the light, the needle goes all the way to full. I checked the old gauge, and it did the same.

Why would that happen? It did it with the lights off as well as on.

Although i get the urge to ram people out of my way sometimes, i don't think my insurance will be very simpathetic.

So im looking around for some new brake pads, does anyone have good things to say about any certain brands?

I've always bought genuine toyota pads as "mother knows best" but just thought id throw it out there.

Cheers

The air pipe to filter passes over the top of the rocker box on my KZN130 and on the right hand side (as you face the engine from the front) there is a plastic fixing arm that bolts down to keep it from moving about.

I have lost the bolt that fixes the arm down.
Its a fine threaded bolt and I have nothing that will fit it.

Does anyone know what is the official name of the bolt, or what the thread size is ?
