Hello all "surf required"

Hi guys, long time no speak.:rolleyes3

It's been a long time coming but I really really really really want another 3rd gen. I've been driving alsorts over the past few years & nothing even come close to a good 20 year old Japanese diesel.

So anyone thinking of selling a "good" 3rd gen in the near future then get in touch but it must be 3rd gen, auto & well looked after like my old one, those of you who saw my surf know the condition I'm after.

It's a long shot as good ones are like hens teeth nowadays but here's hoping.
If I can't find a decent one here then I've no chance😀

P.S don't like the gay blue ones either, no offence.😟

Gen 3 tailgate damage.

Hi Guys, I reversed my Gen 3 into a pole, shattered the numberplate light unit and dented that section plus the rear bumper. The rear window is intact so the dent isn't that far into the door. The rear door is dented bad enough to stop the damned thing from opening. The handle seems to be disconnected from the internal mechanism. Can anyone tell me how to get it open so I can strip off the interior plastic and start beating the dent out?

I was going to get my originals alloys refurbished and powder coated black for approx.£200.(suitable for 31x10.5x15 tyres). However I have discovered that I can buy a brand new set of high gloss silver alloys for £42 (incl.delivery and vat) each.These are supplied by "4x4Tyres.Info" and have the referrence : "15x8 Toyota Surf Elysee Alloy Wheel"---they look good,but are they just short term bling that blisters and peels? Anybody know of these or have any suggestions for an alternative purchase(black is preferable)?

Hi guys & gals i have a prob with a snapped metal brake pipe at my rear the pipe broke just after the fixing to the chassis as it comes out from over the top of the fuel tank best & easy way of fixing it

Ferking aerial and arch liner! 3rd gen.

My aerial got snapped by the National Windsrceens monkey that replaced my screen!
Soooo I bought a new one but struggled with getting the arch liner off, is there a trick to this without screwing it up? Undone 5 10mm bolts and pulled it free but I can't get it out at the back.
Then I had to take the motor apart to get the last bit of broken aerial belt out.... all back together and I'm happy until I went to feed the new one in, it only goes in a few inches then stops any ideas why?
It's as close as I've been to beating this car:sad2: it's almost acting like a Vauxhall....

Hi chaps, I'm back here after a bit of a break from the forum. The trucks been good for the last couple of years apart from the dunce from National Windsrceens snapping my aerial off last week!
It seems a bit quieter here these days although I've just seen Si Tate is back and after a new minter... not selling mine as it's not mint and also a light blue one...:grin3:
Anyway hello agian I'm off to get another coffee now.

sorry if this is the wrong section or been answered before,ive bought a 3 inch lift kit,any pointers to watch out for?had a look round and seen lots ov obvious things to watch for(over stretch)but any hidden stuff that will go ping when lifting body,thanks andy

Fancy a change 2.4 to 3L

I have an old 90 manual 2.4, which im happy with.
However i have the hots for a 3L
I have never driven a 3L ,but assume it will have a bit more grunt.
Anyway looking to simply test drive a 3L in the Devizes area before i make my mind up.
Would really appreciate any offer of a test drive.

Loss of turbo pressure

On Monday, I pulled out at a junction, I heard a small click noise and had no acceleration out from the junction.

The gear change times were off, the revs were higher than normal.

I can't see any hose issues and I notice a very slight click (or clank) noise when I first pull off from cold. There does seem to be some pressure but that could be just psychological. I can drive ok but there's obviously something wrong.

For the past few months, I've also been laying down a good black smoke screen from the exhaust. I would welcome ideas on that too, I suspect EGR.


Any ideas welcome.

Coolant Loss

Hi all. I have a '93 Surf with the 1KZ motor, and I live in Canada. Typical stuff happening, losing coolant and overheating. I replaced the t-stat, had coolant leaks repaired (in rad and transmission cooler), no change in operation. I'm suspecting head but here's my question. Today on the way to work it got hotter than usual. I pulled over, no heat out the blower fan which was weird. Popped the top off the rad and added about a litre of coolant and drove to nearest station and put in another litre and then added to the overflow. 50kms later I get to work and pull the cap off the rad, no coolant in the top of rad, no pressure as I take the rad cap off and the overflow is empty. Where's the pressure and where's the coolant? If the exhaust would be pressuring the coolant system from a crack, would my overflow be full when I stop? Obviously it's not sucking anything back in from the overflow b/c the system is still hot. Any suggestions welcome.

The handle for the tailgate on my Surf just cracked. Tried repairing it but only lasted a day. Anyone have one they're willing to sell? I'm working in Zambia but have friends coming over for a visit in a few weeks that can bring it. Please let me know! Thanks!

Top end rattle

Just fitted an AMC head and it sounds noisey until the oil circulates. It seems to take a lot longer to circulate than before. Is this normal or do I have other problems? Or do I run thinner/thicker oil?
